Survey with confidence

Privacy Policy

General provisions

It is our intent to protect the privacy of the our survey respondents so that they are not treated unethically, and can participate with confidence. Therefore for all surveys on this site it is our policy to:

1. Act ethically towards survey respondents.

2. Preferably run completely anonymous surveys. Where this is not practical because of the research design  (e.g. surveys before and after an event), then  respondents will be advised beforehand of the privacy issues.

3. Where personal details of survey respondents are collected then these shall not be disclosed beyond the researchers or survey owners, who themselves shall be named.

4. Not use personal details in survey fields for unsolicited mail from ourselves nor release such details to third parties. This applies to any contact details you might enter in one of our survey fields or  please-keep-me-informed mini-surveys.

5. Store data on password-protected computers.

Research surveys

For our research surveys, whether our own or those we host as a service to others, the following apply in addition to the General Provisions:

1. Advise Respondents that the results of the survey may be published.

2. Only report aggregate data, so that the responses of individuals cannot be inferred from the data presented.

3. Deploy surveys that have been through an ethics or scholarly approval process.

Commercial surveys

For commercial surveys, where Tiro does not necessarily control the details of the survey,  the following apply in addition to the General Provisions:

1. Advise Respondents beforehand about the degree of protection of privacy, e.g. anonymous vs. token vs. identified individual surveys and the level of data reporting.

2. Not host surveys with questions that are deemed by Tiro to be unethical.
